Neurodiversity in Maritime survey

In October 2022 we launched the first survey of its kind: a benchmark of neurodiversity in the maritime industry. It set out to identify the range and depth of neurodiversity in the profession, the challenges neurodivergent seafarers face, and the scope of the opportunity for the industry.

The survey is the first of its kind. It will identify the range and depth of neurodiversity in our profession and the challenges faced by neurodivergent seafarers.

How we use research

  • to decide where to focus our work
  • to develop practical, evidence-based standards and guidance
  • to make the case for change to employers, regulators and policymakers
  • to measure whether the industry is becoming more inclusive over time

Research partnerships

We're keen to work with universities, maritime training institutions, employers and industry bodies on research into neurodiversity at sea, from recruitment and assessment to medical fitness and retention.
