Listen: neurodiversity at sea on three maritime podcasts

Over the past year, our founder Daniel Smith has been a guest on three maritime podcasts, each reaching a different part of the industry. If you’d like to hear why we started NeurodiversAtSea, and what we think the industry should do next, they are a good place to start.

Maritime Unity

In September 2024, Daniel joined Eva Lianne Veldkamp on Maritime Unity, a Yachting International Radio podcast. They talked about what neurodiversity is and how it affects safety and operations at sea, and how conditions such as autism and ADHD can bring both challenges and real strengths in high-pressure environments.

Sea Views

In June 2025, Daniel spoke to hosts Julia Gosling and Adam Parnell on Sea Views, in an episode called Different Minds, Stronger Crews: Embracing Neurodiversity at Sea. The conversation covers how life at sea can be both difficult and rewarding for neurodivergent people, why employers benefit from neurodivergent talent, and practical changes to recruitment that would open up seafaring careers to more people. Daniel also shares his own story and why he started the charity, and talks about our diagnosis grants for UK-based seafarers.

Burgess Yacht Crew podcast

In July 2025, Daniel was a guest on the Burgess Yacht Crew podcast, which opens up conversations about life at sea and supports the wellbeing of yacht crew. The episode, Neurodiversity: Hiring for Talent, Not Stereotypes, looks at how the yachting industry can recruit people for what they can do, rather than for how they come across.
